a. Knowledge gaining: Each student will become an expert on one planet from our solar system. Using the added value websites students will be able to explore many features of our solar system. They can gain endless knowledge on each planet using the guided websites provided on the student activity page. The interactive websites make researching facts fun. The students will then be able to teach the rest of the class their findings.
b. Knowledge organizing: To help students stay organized and not confused about the project there are step by step instructions on the student activity page. The students are also inserting information in a Google doc. spread sheet for automatic feed back from the teacher on their project choice. Another way to keep students organized and on track the students will print off a checklist of facts I will be looking for in their power point. The students are printing the check lists off before starting their online research to provide a clear understanding of what they need to look for.
c. Knowledge sharing: The unit is based around the concept of sharing their knowledge. The unit will allow the students to become an expert on a planet, teach (share) their research, and learn form other students in the class. As each presentation is being shared the other students will be taking notes so by the end every student will have enough information, about all the planets, to be an expert in all. Knowledge sharing and knowledge gaining work well together when the end project is teaching your peers. The student will become more engaged in their learning when they know they are responsible for teaching their knowledge. The very last assignment is having the students post a blog to share their reflection on how they feel about the project for everyone to read.
